There is much talk about energy these days. People have different views about it but they all boil down to one thing ? energy conservation. When people start to talk about conserving energy, they often have discussions about alternative sources of energy. But what are really the benefits of alternative energy sources? Are we really better off using them instead of fossil fuels?

Click Here For Benefits Of Alternative Energy Best Deal Now!

Indeed, there are several benefits that we can realize when using alternative energy. Of course you will need to make a certain investment on special equipment ? you either purchase them or you can make one. Once you have the right apparatus, you will realize that you will no longer have to purchase electricity ever again because you can already generate your own.

Once you are able to sufficiently generate power for your home, you will not be far from having excess electricity. So what will happen to the surplus energy? You can sell them back to your local utility! Clean energy is something that power plants find hard to refuse. With alternative energy, you do not only have cost savings, you also have a source of added income.

The benefits of alternative energy are not only limited for home use. We can also use alternative energy on our vehicles. Being able to produce our own clean fuel can impact the amount of oil that we import from other countries. In the long run, this will also have significant effects on our economy, especially on consumer prices. Using clean bio diesel on our cars will also help us save the energy because we will be able to reduce the amount of contaminants that are being released into the air that we breathe.

With the surging oil prices and the various threats to our environment, it is indeed time for us to change how we look at burning fossil fuel and start looking into alternative energy sources. These are only a few of the benefits of alternative energy and most of them underscore cost savings. Who knows what other advantages lie beneath these clean energy sources.

Peak Oil: Does America Have Sustainable Power?

We are living in a tumultuous world. We are experiencing an economic downturn, and the way things look right now, it seems this ?recession? may even be greater than the great depression. The war as they say is the cause. The budget deficit for 2008 was over $400,000,000. This money certainly would have been put to better use within America itself.

The ?Conspiracy? Theory

Most people will are of the opinion that the president of the United States waged war on Iraq country due to oil; America after all is one of the world?s largest consumer of this scarce natural resource. Everything in the US is automated, or electrical. To run machines you need oil products, to produce high demands of electricity you need millions of barrels of oil to run the generators.

It is not preposterous to believe that the U.S, whose reliance on Middle Eastern oil is immense, has vested interest in acquiring a country so rich in black gold. First of all it will make oil sources available anytime they want without having to bother with diplomacy and pass through another government. Second more profit for the American oil corporations, because if they can get fossil fuel at cost then they will have more earnings. The theory makes sense and could very much be possible.

Sustainable Power Resources

We are not here to discuss political and personal issues. All I want to do is to point out that there are other faces in this picture. Yes, America is one of the world?s largest energy consumers, but it also has the largest alternative energy resources in the World.

Geothermal, Hydro, Wind and etc

The United States of America is considered as the world?s greatest geothermal energy producer. The Geysers located just north of San Francisco are the planet?s first and largest dry steam fields. The amazing thing about these power plants -since there are several- is that sewage waste from surrounding cities are pumped into the geothermal plant in order to replenish the supply of steam needed for energy production. States such as Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, and Utah have their own geothermal plants.

Considered the fourth country with the largest hydropower capacity, the U.S has revolutionized hydropower by building numerous dams in highly planned areas all across the country. Definitely, the most popular is the Hoover Dam. At the time it was fully operational Hoover Dam was said to be the world?s largest electricity generating hydropower plant. The Hoover dam supplies electricity to the states of Nevada, Arizona and most of Southern California.

Rock Port, Missouri is a city in North America which is fully powered by wind farms. Of the 50 states in America, over half have wind farms which help supply their electricity needs. Some states may have aesthetic issues, but wind farms will definitely become essential in the future especially when the impact of declining oil supplies from the Middle East is felt.

Conclusion

The United States have their own oil resources right within their backyards. There are new and promising sites in Texas and just off shore from New Orleans. And then there is a lot of excitement around the ?Bakken Formation? in the States of Montana and the Dakotas. But one thing remains obvious, fossil fuel as an energy source is not viable for human health and the future of our environment. If you?re still asking why the American government is waging war for oil? Maybe it?s not just oil after all. Perhaps, there is a more deeper and nefarious plan at work, a peace crusade with a sword in hand, but not to accomplish peace, rather to expand power and?

The alarming effects of pollution in the environment added with the fast depletion and rising costs of fossil fuels, has prompted scientific communities and governments to create measures to alleviate these problems the world over.

One of the solutions that sprang up from laboratories are bio- fuels- plant extracts and compounds which when added to gasoline and petrol will substitute fuel characteristics.

Bio- fuels certainly aids the environment as they are biological in nature and therefore do not add carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Coming from carbon dioxide digesters in nature, they typically remove carbon dioxide and in turn give off the same amount when burnt.

Though still in the introduction stage in the market, bio- fuels has proven to be promising with surprising results- they do not only cost much less to make than gasoline or petrol additives, but elaborate tests has proven that they can also improve vehicle performance and clean emissions! Further tests conducted have also proven that bio-fuels eliminate smog and engine build-up.

A lot of oil companies are slowly picking up the pace in marketing these types of fuel and a lot are reporting sales steadily on the rise due to the affordability and added benefits. There are also new oil market players that cater exclusively to the production and distributing bio-fuels and by-products, now gaining influence off the growing demand for cheaper and cleaner fuel alternatives.

Bio-fuel variants largely used in vehicles today include:

1. Bio- Diesel

For diesel engines. This type of fuel can be used with existing cars with little or no adaptation needed and scores well on the energy ratings. Cars on Bio- Ethanol basically land the same rankings as those running on gasoline. The difference however shows up on the combustion process as Bio-Ethanol only emits the carbon dioxide it has used up in the growth process of its plant source, while burning gasoline or diesel adds more CO2 into the atmosphere due to their underground containment in oil deposits for eons of years.

Large sources of plant extracts usually come from the following:

* Ethanol alcohol from Sugarcane
* Oil extracts from mature Jathropa seeds
* Coconut oil

2. Biogas

Another interesting alternative to fossil fuels, Biogas is the type of gas from animal or plant wastes or a combination of both. A mixture of both has been proven to yield the best results. The animal wastes produce the nitrogen for bacterial growth and vegetable matter supplies the needed carbon.

With the positive market feedback, researchers are still looking and testing other viable plant sources for an even improved fuel additive which will eventually (should the need arise) power vehicles in the future.

As a motorist this is truly a great news- now you?ll get relief over fuel costs and maintenance bills but the most rewarding above all is that in using bio-fuels, you?re contributing to the welfare of your environment.

Solar energy technologies has significantly advanced in this century. Many buildings are now incorporated with passive solar in their designs. The cost of using solar hot water systems is very close to conventional systems in some areas. And as the cost of solar panel continues to decrease, these systems will be more widely used. The aim of solar industry in future is to provide half of the electricity of U.S. by 2025.

Germany and Japan have been leading in solar deployment for years. But the United States is catching up.Let us take California as an example.During 2000 and 2001,California experienced the rolling blackouts and soaring energy prices. This have motivated its leaders to diversify energy sources. In 2006,? California Solar Initiative was established, which dedicates $3.2 billion over 11 years to develop 3,000 megawatts of new solar electricity, equal to placing solar power systems on a million rooftops.

Other states in US are following California. Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Colorado and Arizona have specific requirements for solar energy as part of their renewable electricity standards. Many more states offer production incentives, rebates, tax incentives, loan and grant programs for solar industry. Even the federal government is offering a 30 percent tax credit (up to $2,000) for the purchase and installation of residential solar power systems and solar water heaters.

As the solar industry continues to expand, there will be occasional bumps in the road. For example, growing demand for manufacturing-quality silicon from the solar industries has raised the cost of PV(photovoltaic ) cell which is used to make solar panel. In addition, some utilities continue to put up roadblocks for grid-connected solar power systems. But these problems will be overcome, and in future solar energy will play an increasingly integral role in ending our national dependence on fossil fuels, combating the threat of global warming, and securing a future based on clean and sustainable energy.

Wind is not only the cleanest source of energy available to humanity, it is also the world?s fastest growing source of electrical power. But the United States has been slow to adopt. A Canadian company is changing that though ? one wind farm at a time.

Western Wind Energy Corp (TSX.V:WND) is North America?s largest publicly traded pure wind energy producer, currently providing 34 megawatts of wind turbine-generated electricity to the California electrical grid. Right now, it is the only publicly traded company in North America deriving its income exclusively from the sale of electricity generated from wind power.

With the announcement on February 14th of the successful acquisition of a 100 MW wind and solar energy site near Barstow, California, Western Wind has an additional 1,300 MW in its pipeline of expansion sites throughout the state.

The company now has over $1 billion of power sales agreements totaling 155 megawatts from the sale of wind energy electrical generation to two separate utilities.

In the United States during 2007, 5,244 megawatts of generating power was installed by the wind energy industry, breaking all previous records and growing the U.S. national wind generating capacity by 45%.

The new wind projects account for about 30 percent of the entire new power-producing capacity added nationally in 2007 and will power the equivalent of 1.5 million American households annually.

American wind farms will generate an estimated 48 billion kilowatt-hours of wind energy in 2008, just over one percent of U.S. electricity supply, powering the equivalent of over 4.5 million homes.

California is, as might be expected, is a leader among states for installed megawatts of wind generated electricity with 2,439 MW of installed capacity, second only to Texas.

Nancy Rader, executive director of the California Wind Energy Association said, ?I think that wind could realistically provide 20% of the state?s electricity needs 13 years from now ? up from less than 2% today, which would be about 20,000 MW of capacity.?

Western Wind Energy is perfectly positioned to capture a big piece of that evolving capacity for one simple reason: the management team has 24 years of continuous wind installation operating experience ? more than any other company within the industry.

The secret to creating profitable wind installations is in the siting of the turbines. Meteorologist Rich Simon, a consultant to Western Wind, has chosen the locations of over 40,000 turbines, or 10,000 MW of generating capacity around the world. He is one of the industry?s few ?go-to? guys, responsible for siting 10% of the world?s turbine capacity since 1977.

As wind resource areas vary, so does the cost of generation. A wind farm operating in a 15 mph yearly average wind speed may have total costs of 6.8 cents per kilowatt-hour. That same wind farm, operation in a 20 mph yearly average wind speed, may have total costs of only 4.9 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Like most major forms of electricity generation, wind power is capital intensive. In economic terms, wind power has an extremely low marginal cost and a high proportion of up-front costs. The energy consumption for producing, installing, operating and eventually decommissioning a wind turbine is typically earned back within three months of operation.

At a robust wind location in the state of California, for each one megawatt installed, or

US$2 million capital invested, $400,000 is generated annually in energy sales with a further $80,000 in annual federal tax credits (Production Tax Credit or PTC).

The Senate Finance Committee last month included an extension of the expiring tax credits for wind, solar, and other renewable energy technologies as part of its economic stimulus package now working its way through Congress.

Western Wind is not content to remain a ?wind-only? company, and recently announced a cooperative agreement with Solon America Corporation to develop 5 to 40 megawatts of photovoltaic ? solar energy projects in California and an additional 5 ? 40 megawatts of photovoltaic ? solar energy projects in Ontario, Canada.

Solon America is the subsidiary of $1.2 billion German solar energy equipment manufacturer Solon A.G.

The company was founded in 1998 by CEO Jeff Ciachurski, who has negotiated more than 200MW of off-take agreements and raised over $50 million to acquire real estate and develop the company’s projects.

His objective?

?To grow Western Wind Energy into a mid-size wind developer and operator with a market capitalization of between US $1 billion and US $4 billion.?

Given the company?s success to date, that doesn?t come across as just a lot of wind.

In his State of the Union Address for 2007, President George W. Bush called for a 22% increase in federal grants for research and development of alternative energy. However, in a speech he gave soon after, he said to those assembled, I recognize that there has been some interesting mixed signals when it comes to funding.

Where the mixed signals were coming from concerned the fact that at the same time the President was calling on more government backing for alternative energy research and development, the NREL-the National Renewable Energy Laboratory of Golden, Colardo-was laying off workers and contractors left and right. Apparently, the Laboratory got the hint, because soon after the State of the Union Address, everyone was re-hired. The second speech of the President’s was actually given at the NREL. There is almost unanimous public support for the federal backing through research grants, tax breaks, and other financial incentives of research and development of alternative energy sources.

The NREL is the nation’s leading component of the National Bioenergy Center, a “virtual” center that has no central bricks and mortar office. The NREL’s raison d’etre is the advancing of the US Department of Energy’s and the United States’ alternative energy objectives. The laboratory’s field researchers and staff scientists, in the words of Laboratory Director Dan Arvizu, “support critical market objectives to accelerate research from scientific innovations to market-viable alternative energy solutions. At the core of this strategic direction are NREL’s research and technology development areas. These areas span from understanding renewable resources for energy, to the conversion of these resources to renewable electricity and fuels, and ultimately to the use of renewable electricity and fuels in homes, commercial buildings, and vehicles.” The federally-backed Laboratory directly helps along the United States’ objectives for discovering renewable alternative fuels for powering our economy and our lifestyles.

The NREL is set up to have several areas of expertise in alternative energy research and development. It spearheads research and development efforts into renewable sources of electricity; these would include such things as solar power, wind power, biomass power, and geothermal power. It also spearheads research and development of renewable fuels for powering our vehicles such as biomass and biodiesel fuels and hydrogen fuel cells. Then, it seeks to develop plans for integrated system enginnering; this includes bringing alternative energy into play within buildings, electrical grids and delivery systems, and transportation infrastructures. The Laboratory is also set up for strategic development and analysis of alternative energy objectives through the forces of economics, market analysis and planning, and alternative energy investment portfolios structurings.

The NREL is additionally equipped with a Technology Transfer Office.
The energy crisis that our world has been going through in the past couple decades has really opened up our eyes to finding a solution. Scientists, Inventors, and governmental regulators have all been contemplating ideas on how this solution would be resolved. The thought of alternative energy has been in the minds of the public lately flooding with thoughts of possible solutions. Also since not only are we in a deficit but it is also one of the major issues of the 2008 election. The outcome of the election is going to greatly sway where our nation is going to turn in terms of alternate energy. This issue is a very important one because is represents how we are going to take on the future. It will show how we are going to provide for our country?s efficiencies. Recently, In New York, ?State regulators approved a deal on Wednesday that will allow the construction of hundreds of new wind turbines in New York, doubling the amount of wind power capacity within a few years.? However this dealing could only take effect if Iberdrola would be allowed to acquire Energy East. Iberdrola is an energy conglomerate based in Spain, and Energy East is a utility company doing a large amount of business in five states.

These wind tunnels in New York would allow for almost a double in wind energy to occur within the state. This would allow for a tremendous increase in energy allowance at the state level. With all of the wind tunnels advances and potential, there are some pivotal downfalls. The construction that would be needed to complete this project would be tremendous and very dangers. Since our economy has been declining, people have been putting issues such as safety and equipment aside. Putting safety and equipment aside is a very dangerous thing to do. Construction accidents involving safety and equipment are at an all time high. New York Construction accident lawyers are being flooded with people that have fallen victim to these crimes. Since construction workers have one of the most dangerous jobs you would think that safety and equipment would given to them in the most appropriate conditions.

This new proposal would allow our energy crisis to be depleted in New York. In doing this it would help out the economy as a whole and start our way to becoming more efficient with out energy. However if this plan becomes a reality it is necessary to make sure that our construction workers have the most up to date safety and equipment standards and procedures. If however safety and equipment are not prioritized, then we are going to see a lot of injured construction workers. If you are a construction worker who has been injured on a construction site, contact New York Construction Accident lawyers as soon as possible. For they have the ability to stand up for you in a court of law and make sure that your rights are being honored. IN contacting a New York Construction accident lawyer you will be taking the first step to gaining back what was taken from you.

Looking for green information or devices like the solar charger that generate their energy on their own or can make the best of solar energy or are you trying to scout around for items that are just energy efficient or attachable to portable power packs that run are solar powered? These devices will not only save money on the electricity bill but also help save some money for spending on other energy efficient products.

It was only until the 1800s that the battery was invented. What does a battery do? It stores energy in one or more cells of electrochemical components. This stored up energy is converted to electricity by changing it to kinetic energy. Batteries are a part of our everyday lives, but it’s so ubiquitous that we don’t realize that fact! Batteries are everywhere, in torches, watches, laptops, cameras, iPods and even computers! It’s central to the way we run our business and private lives. Duracell and Energizer batteries are the best and sell billions of units a year!

Rechargeable batteries can be charged by the current passing through it which is converted to energy. Battery chargers can be used for charging batteries of laptops or even golf carts, however their chargers would be different since the charge varies according to the size of the battery and the technology required to get it up and running! Nickel-cadmium batteries are used almost everywhere nowadays since they are highly powerful batteries and are sleek and tiny and can be found in digital cameras and almost any new product in an electronics shop. Wal-mart, CVS and Target stocks and sells these chargers as a result the demands too have skyrocketed.

Digital cameras can also be charged using solar battery chargers. OEM chargers work on solar energy and second-hand chargers for brands like Nikon, Sony, Panasonic and Olympus can be bought for cheap. This is because camera makers don’t make solar chargers. While shopping for chargers like this for a camera, it’s best to check the voltage limit the camera battery can withstand and use the solar panel that corresponds to that to get it charged. These batteries can cost anywhere from between $140 to $250.

Now one can even get solar phone chargers for iPods and cell phones – you can look up your green information on teh move. These chargers can even charge PDA devices.

There are two advantages of solar battery chargers – they don’t use too much energy which people end up paying for to recharge the batteries in wall chargers and also, unlike wall charging units, these products don’t need an electric plug! The inbuilt solar panels tap the sun’s rays and convert it to electricity free of cost as long as the sun is up!

Solar battery chargers aren’t large, they’re easy to transport and can be exposed to the sun at any location. Now you can charge your batteries without a worry in the world and if you run out of charge, you can charge it again! Charge your devices for free on clean renewable energy that is environmentally friendly.

Blind Coverings are the best way to conserve energy when it seems impossible in the hot Arizona summer months; however, blinds make a difference. Blind Chalet has created an energy calculator to give customers an idea of the impact.

Window treatments are an efficient and cost effective way to conserve energy. During the summer months the sunlight that enters into the home through the windows and doors loses about 20 to 50 percent of the total energy. More energy enters in one square foot of clear glass than an entire insulated wall. This increases the workload of the air conditioner by 50 percent. In hot, arid environments such as Arizona it is important to have effective window coverings for energy conservation. Blinds reduce energy consumption, lower energy bills, prevent the sun from fading the interior, and maintain a comfortable and consistent temperature within the home.

Window coverings can control the amount of energy that enters into the home and the style determines the efficiency of the blinds. The shading coefficient measures the window treatments ability to block solar energy from entering into the home. Customers should keep in mind the lower the shading coefficient the more the blinds keep the home insulated.

Blinds Chalet has created an energy calculator so customers can calculate the most energy efficient window treatments for their home. The tool is easy to use; the customer simply enters the square footage of their home, then Blinds Chalet lists several styles of blinds and lists their estimated energy savings. The calculator displays a savings from $200 to $400 dollar savings on average sized homes. Windows that face east and west need more protection from sunlight than windows positioned on the north and south sides of the house.

The most efficient blinds are honeycomb cell shades and wood or faux wood blinds. It is important to know the color of the blinds makes a difference because various colors respond to light differently. Dark colors tend to absorb more heat than lighter colors and shiny surfaces reflect the light.

Blinds Chalet, has more than 25 years of experience in dealing with many different types of window coverings. Blinds Chalet offers consumers the best in attractive blind options, while also offering high quality blinds that are made from some of the most durable materials available. Blinds Chalet has a variety of blinds that are available for any home, any style of d?cor, and any budget.
